Retailer ICA set high environmental goals for their new shopping destination in Gnista on the outskirts of Uppsala. The municipality on their hand wanted good architecture. With a brief to design a building with bold expression and a character of it’s own Koncept Stockholm developed a scheme where ordinary building parts were used in an economical, innovative and playful manner. The environmental touch can be seen in the green, folded entrance canopy. The retail destination had been a hit with active families, the main target group, and ICA continues to work with Koncept Stockholm to add more retail space in Gnista.
